VEX Programming cable

Postby DANLOL on Thu Oct 11, 2007 8:14 pm

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I recently purchased myself a VEX's starter kit, but really don't feel like paying $100 for the programming kit when all I really need is the programming cable, I already have MPLAB and RobotC. Does anyone know if its possible to purchase just the cable ( aside from ebay ), or does anyone have an extra they are willing to sell? I've heard that vexlabs sell it on their site but cannot find it anywhere, and the closest I have come is a website selling just the USB to Serial cable. Thanks in advanced.

This is actually what the gang is trying to find out for themselves :D

We need some cables, but don't want to pay $100 for the kit....no one seems to sell just the cables.

Haha I know man its so frustrating. :!:

I found an ebay auction selling the programming kit, but I would be battling with like 3 other people and probably end up paying $60 something for it when all I need is the cable. .

The other site I found was this http://store.robomatter.com/prsodo.html but thats just the USB to Serial part, it does not include the programming module and RJ25 cable.

I think I found a solution to this. After reading the vex site again I found this http://www.vexlabs.com/vex-robotics-downloads.shtml

"If you only need the programming hardware (Program Dongle $49.95), includes a Programming Module, USB-to-Serial cable, RJ25 6-pin cable please call 903-453-0802 to order."

So it is possible just have to call in, cant order it online. :D

You can just run a search for USB to serial and find cheap cables and any converters you need are also dirty cheap forget about spending $100 through vex or trossenrobotics or any other site charging so much. You can also make one check this site out http://www.crestoak.com/robotics/progca ... cable.html i think radio shack used to also carry some types but they charge to much its good as a last resort if you need something yesterday. There's a rat shack near me next to some vitamin store that i work at.
